Every year around 34 million people in the UK – around 70% of the adult population – try to lose weight, spending £10 billion on commercial diets in the process.
Diets are a short-term solution to a long-term problem. To lose weight successfully you need to consider what, how much, when and how often you eat, and why. Commercial diets address your calorie intake and/or your physical fitness, but not your mental or emotional fitness – and these are more difficult habits to break.
It’s all in the mind
Unhealthy attitudes towards food, such as over-eating and comfort eating, can begin in childhood. Alternatively, they can develop as an adult when you go through a period of stress – this often leads to comfort eating. If you have deep-seated issues around food, when you go on a diet you’ll struggle against established patterns that have been with you for years. Addressing those patterns through hypnotherapy and other techniques can stop the yo-yo dieting and help you keep the weight off.

As well as your diet we’ll look at all the other factors that contribute to you losing or gaining weight, such as:
- That occasional glass of wine that’s become more than occasional and more than a glass!
- Raiding the biscuit cupboard or the kids’ sweetie jar
- Your attitude to exercise which, once addressed, can speed up the weight loss process, improve your fitness, muscle tone and posture.
Weight loss hypnotherapy for men
Whilst hypnosis can help men and women who want to lose weight, I’ve had significant success treating men who want to take back control of their eating habits. If you find it difficult to discuss your health concerns, body image or weight problems with friends or family, hypnotherapy could be the right treatment for you. Sessions are completely confidential and a safe place to talk. As part of your treatment you’ll have recommended reading to help you regain control of your health and wellbeing.
How many hypnotherapy sessions will it take to help me lose weight?
To achieve the best results, I recommend we meet every week for the first three weeks, reducing to every two weeks or monthly as required. We may spend our early sessions addressing your emotional issues around food before moving on to hypnosis. Every client is different so I’ll use a combination of different strategies and techniques to suit your situation.
Most clients have around six sessions of weight loss hypnosis. After this they feel confident that they can continue their newfound eating habits and maintain a healthy lifestyle on their own.
What to expect from weight loss hypnotherapy
Session 1 (2 hours)
We’ll talk about your current weight, body image, diet and lifestyle, and identify the emotional reasons behind your weight gain. Together we’ll set realistic and achievable goals for how much weight you want to lose, over what time period, and what changes you need to make to achieve those goals.
Session 2 onwards (1 hour per session)
Using hypnotherapy and other techniques I’ll help you to make transformational changes. You will change any out-dated coping strategies around food and break bad eating habits you’ve acquired. To get full benefit from the sessions, it’s important that you do your part and follow the lifestyle and diet changes we have agreed. I will monitor your progress and provide further support and therapy at regular intervals.
